1. Fancy fabric. A glorious 2.5 metres of gorgeous floral material – ideal for curtains, cushions, dresses or skirts – for a lucky $7. People spend more money than that on the pokies. Perhaps a form of rehabilitation for gamblers should be thrift shopping. It might inform their perspective.
2. Hot Cross Buns. At a mere 75 cents for a packet of eight, they sure were hot! For all you mathematically challenged dweebs out there, that’s less than 10 cents a bun. As much as I object to the Easter gear being brought out ridiculously early, I do love a bun that is hot and crossed and priced at less than a postage stamp.
3. Bowl with lid. It’s a bowl. With a lid. But it’s very painted and pretty, and, for only $3, who could resist? Not I, miser-man! Not I. The blue and white floral pattern makes me feel mature. I have placed it on my desk to remind me of that and I am contemplating placing my spare buttons in there. A button bowl. The type of existence I would like to have.
4. Pears in a box. Not only were the pears cheap ($1.58 for nine), but they also came in a box. Boxes, like bags, are very useful things. If we didn’t have boxes, what would we use to put a lot of things in? I gave the box away (read: Valentine’s Day), but the memory of the joy at spotting those nine pears in a box... ah...ah....ah.
5. Black and white polka dot dress thing. I say thing, because it’s a bit strange. It has elastic at the top and elastic where your hips should be, but it doesn’t quite sit right. That’s because it’s too small. I guess I shouldn’t say it’s strange. That’s not very accurate. I thought it looked too small, but it was a single dollar and when I bought it I figured I could walk around saying, ‘Hey mister! You got a dollar?’, in a very American accent. And that was worth it.
